Ricardo Fuentes Contreras

Born in Granada, Spain, Ricardo began having Viola classes at the age of eight and at quickly developed a passion and love which has shaped his whole life. 

He obtained his BMus from the Music  Conservatory of the Basque Country in 2017, studying under  Natalia Tchitch and David Quiggle and is currently undertaking his MA in Music Performance at the prestigious Royal Academy of Music in London, where he is developing his musical skill further under Jon Thorne. Masterclasses and tuition provide Ricardo with a strong musical grounding, and he has benefited from classes with Ben-Ziony, Alan Kovack, Goncal Comellas, Lise Berthaud, Igor Sulyga, José Ángel Vélez, David Fons, Jon Thorne, and Jonathan Brown among others

During his musical journey, he has been part of numerous young orchestras, including The JOSGThe OUGRThe OJA, The Young Orchestra  of Valencia’s city and The Young Chamber Music Orchestra of Granada. Performing with professional orchestras such as Gulbenkian Orchestra (Lisbon), Orquestra Sinfónica Portuguesa (Lisbon), Bilbao Sinfonika Orquestra (BOS), Euskadiko Sinfonika Orchestra (OSE), Orquesta Ciudad de Granada (OCG) and Neue Internacionale Philharmonie of Munich has provided Ricardo with a strong background in orchestral performance and enabled him to perform a wide and diverse repertoire, touring FranceItalyPortugal and  China

In 2011  he formed the Gaudí Quartet  which participates regularly in concerts and festivals, and has received classes from Michael Thomas from British Quartet (Badke Quartet) , Igor Sulyga ( Kopelman Quartet), Gernot Susmuth (Petersen Quartet), Casals Quartet, Quiroga Quartet, Emerson Quartet, Valentin Erben (Albang Berg Quartet), Alexander Pavlovsky (Jerusalem Quartet) Alex Redington (Doric Quartet), Raiener Schmidt (Hagen Quartet), and James Dahlgren. With his quartet, Ricardo has won numerous prizes and scholarships, receiving first or second place prizes in the following competitions: the International Competition of Chamber Music ‘’ Higini Ángeles’’ (Tarragona), the International Competition of Chamber Music ‘’Juventudes Musicales’’ (Vinarós), the Young Musicians Competition of E.M.M.D.O., at Panticosa Festival and the Zeist Music days Festival with Alexander Pavlovsky (Jerusalem Quartet). 

Ricardo has been conductors by Semión Bychkov, Susanna MÄlkki, Eliahu Inbal, Oliver Knussen, Alberto Zedda, Antoni Ros Marbà, Enrique García Asensio, Goncal Comellas, Konrad Von Abel, Arturo Tamayo, among others.

Among the most important projects are the International Chamber Music festival Orlando (Netherlands), as well as, concerts over Granada, Madrid, Tarragona, Barcelona, Netherlands and Germany. With his Quartet was awarded by Quiroga Quartet at Chamber Music Festival of LLanes. 

Ricardo looks forward to the future and to being further recognized as an accomplished soloist, chamber music and orchestral viola musician.
